Hello, I'm Sally, and Wood Lane Flowers is the realisation of a lifelong dream: to cultivate beautiful, seasonal flowers and use them to create deeply personal arrangements for life's most significant moments – from joyous East Devon weddings to heartfelt farewells.
My connection to gardens and growing flowers runs deep. I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by nature, inspired by my mother’s dedication to her gardens. My brother and I would roam freely, absorbing the names of flowers, I only now fully appreciate the richness of this upbringing. This early immersion in the beauty of the natural world planted the seed for Wood Lane Flowers long ago.
This passion for the outdoors was a family affair. My father, who grew up on a smallholding in Somerset with abundant orchards and flower gardens, also valued green spaces immensely. My mother couldn't wait to have her own garden, and many childhood evenings were spent waiting for supper while she had "just another ten minutes" in the flower beds!
It wasn’t until 2006 that I had my very own garden, immediately filling it with cuttings from my mother. I am truly at my most fulfilled when I’m growing and tending plants. For many years, I had a deeply rewarding career as a cancer nurse practitioner, a role that taught me so much about compassion, care, and understanding individual needs – qualities I bring to every floral consultation today. I still manage to squeeze in nursing work part time.
The Covid pandemic crystallised my desire to fully embrace my flower farming dream. The garden has always been my sanctuary, a place to feel calm and recentered. Now, Wood Lane Flowers is my way of sharing that peace and beauty with others.
My husband, son, and I live in a lovely cottage in Broadhembury, East Devon. Our garden, created 12 years ago, is packed with flowers and foliage, and a polytunnel bursts with seedlings. An additional plot in the village, a sanctuary for wildlife, allows me to grow an even wider selection of perennial, annual, and biennial flowers.
From these carefully tended plots, I select the freshest, most beautiful blooms to craft unique designs. For Wedding Flowers, I love working with couples across East Devon – from Honiton and Ottery St Mary to Cullompton and Sidmouth – to bring their vision to life with romantic, natural, and seasonal arrangements that reflect their personal style. I am happy to travel to venues further a field, which often bring inspiration to my designs.
For Funeral and Farewell Flowers, my approach is one of gentle understanding and respect. I aim to create tributes that offer comfort and truly honour the memory of your loved one, using flowers grown with care here in Broadhembury. Whether it's a bespoke casket spray, a natural wreath, or a simple, elegant sheaf, I provide a personal service during a difficult time, serving families throughout Honiton, Cullompton, Broadhembury, and the wider East Devon area. I am passionate about ensuring my floral designs don’t pollute our landscape, so I use compostable and recyclable materials only.
Wood Lane Flowers was sown in my head years ago, and now it's my privilege to invest my time and passion into growing flowers as a business, sharing their beauty for your most important occasions.
I can provide flowers that work for different wedding venues, styles and budgets. The beauty of locally grown flowers is capturing the seasonality of your event.
Thoughtful, seasonal tributes crafted with compassion to honour your loved one. Offering personal guidance for funeral flowers across East Devon.
